# Balanced Force

## Definition

A hand-instrumentation method in which the file is seated with a clockwise turn, cut with a counter-clockwise turn held against light apical pressure, then cleared with a further clockwise turn. It was designed to keep the file centred in a curved canal; the cutting stroke is the counter-clockwise turn rather than a pull.
