## Protocol

### Glide Path

1. **Establish Glide Path** — Fill chamber with 17% EDTA liquid (e.g., EdgeLube). Coat files with 17% EDTA gel (e.g., EdgeGel). Take #10 hand file to estimated working length. Establish working length with apex locator and/or radiograph.
   - Optionally confirm patency by taking #10 hand file 1mm past WL
   - Optionally take #15 hand file to working length
   - 17/.04 can serve as a mechanical glide path file

### Shaping

1. **Technique 1: Small Tip / Large Taper (Schilder Shape)** — Take each file to working length: 20/.04 → 20/.06 → 20/.08 → 20/.10 (optional). Alternatively, crown-down: 20/.10 → 20/.08 → 20/.06 → 20/.04, repeat. Finish with 25/.08 or 25/.10 if a larger shape is desired. _(File: 20/.04 through 20/.10, then 25/.08 or 25/.10 · 300-600 RPM · 2.94 Ncm (300 g-cm) · Continuous rotation)_
   - Irrigate with EDTA liquid after each file
   - Recapitulate with #10 hand file to WL after each rotary file
   - Emphasizes smaller tip with larger apical taper for deep shape
2. **Technique 2: Large Tip / Small Taper (Classic)** — Take each file to working length: 20/.04 → 25/.04 → 30/.04. Optional enlargement: 35/.04 or 40/.04. For .06 taper: after 30/.04, take 30/.06 and increase tip size as needed. _(File: 20/.04 through 30/.04 (or 40/.04), then optional .06 taper · 300-600 RPM · 2.94 Ncm (300 g-cm) · Continuous rotation)_
   - Classic preparation — enlarges tip size with conservative taper
   - 1.0mm max flute diameter maintains moderate coronal shape
   - Irrigate and recapitulate between each file
3. **Technique 3: Large Tip / Large Taper** — Shape with 20/.04 through 20/.10, then finish with 30/.08, 30/.10, 35/.08, 35/.10, 40/.08, or 40/.10. Provides deeper apical shape while maintaining 1.0mm max flute diameter. _(File: 20 series then 30-40/.08 or .10 · 300-600 RPM · 2.94 Ncm (300 g-cm) · Continuous rotation)_
   - Manufacturer claims EdgeEvolve 08/10 tapers have better cyclic fatigue than many competing 04 taper files (bench data)
   - 1.0mm max flute diameter even at 40/.10
   - May be particularly useful for cases needing maximum apical debridement

### Finishing

1. **Disinfect and Obturate** — Disinfect and obturate canals with matching gutta percha points. Matching GP points and paper points available in .04, .06, .08, and .10 tapers.
   - Matching gutta percha and paper points available for .04 and .06 tapers
   - EdgeCore carrier-based obturation available for .06 taper sizes
   - EdgeFill obturation available for .06 taper sizes

## Clinical Tips

- All files have 1.0mm maximum flute diameter — conserves coronal dentin regardless of taper selection (per DFU and product page)
- Constant taper from tip until flute diameter reaches 1.0mm, then varies to zero/straight taper while flutes continue to 15mm (per DFU)
- FireWire heat treatment — manufacturer claims 2-8x better cyclic fatigue resistance than competitors (bench data, per product page)
- Triangular cross-section with open flute design for superior debris removal (per product page)
- Highly versatile — 6 tip sizes (17-40) with 4 tapers each (.04, .06, .08, .10) allows multiple technique approaches
- Can be used as GTX/GT Series X alternative (per product page and 2025 catalog)
- Non-cutting tip for reduced transportation risk
- Available in 21mm, 25mm, and 29mm lengths

## Warnings

- Single patient use only — do not reuse
- Use only in electric motor and handpiece designed for rotary files
- Do not force files — use minimal apical pressure
- Non-sterile — clean and sterilize before patient use
- Irrigate and lubricate the canal frequently throughout the procedure
- Clean flutes frequently and check for signs of distortion or wear
- Files may appear slightly curved due to heat treatment — this is normal, not a defect

## Best for

- moderate/conservative access preparation
- deep apical shaping with 1mm max flute diameter
- versatile multi-taper file selection
