## Protocol

### Glide Path

1. **Scout Canal** — In presence of lubricant (e.g., EdgeLube), use #10 K-file to verify canal patency. Determine working length with apex locator and periapical radiograph.
   - Pre-curve file for curved canals
   - Use watch-winding motion
   - Verify smooth, reproducible glide path to at least loose #10
2. **Expand Glide Path** — Expand glide path to at least 0.15mm using hand files, EdgeFind, or EdgeOne GlidePath reciprocating file (19/.02-06 progressive taper). _(File: EdgeOne GlidePath (19/.02-06) · WaveOne ALL mode · Reciprocating)_
   - EdgeOne GlidePath replaces up to 8 instruments (hand files + Gates Glidden)
   - Use gentle inward pecking motion with short amplitude strokes
   - Irrigate, recapitulate with #10, re-irrigate after reaching WL

### Shaping

1. **ALWAYS Start with PRIMARY** — Always initiate shaping with PRIMARY file (#25) per DFU. Do not pre-select Small/Medium/Large — PRIMARY is the mandatory starting file. Use gentle inward pressure, let the file passively progress. _(File: PRIMARY (#25) · WaveOne ALL mode · Reciprocating)_
   - After shaping 2-3mm, remove and clean file
   - Irrigate, recapitulate with #10, re-irrigate
   - Use brushing motion on outstroke for irregular cross-sections
   - ⚠ Never use continuous rotation
   - ⚠ Do not force file apically
2. **Pre-enlarge Coronal 2/3** — Continue with PRIMARY file in 2-3 passes to pre-enlarge coronal two-thirds of canal. _(File: PRIMARY (#25) · WaveOne ALL mode)_
   - In restrictive canals, use #10 K-file with lubricant to negotiate to terminus
   - Work file until completely loose at length
   - Establish WL, confirm patency, verify glide path
3. **Carry to Working Length** — Carry PRIMARY file to full working length in one or more passes. Upon reaching length, remove file to avoid over-enlarging foramen. _(File: PRIMARY (#25) · WaveOne ALL mode)_
   - Inspect apical flutes - if loaded with dentinal debris, shape is finished
   - If PRIMARY doesn't progress, use SMALL file first then return to PRIMARY
4. **Upsize if Needed** — If PRIMARY is loose at WL with no dentinal debris in apical flutes, continue with MEDIUM (#35) and/or LARGE (#45) until apical flutes are loaded. _(File: MEDIUM / LARGE · WaveOne ALL mode)_
   - MEDIUM (#35) for medium canals
   - LARGE (#45) for wide canals

### Finishing

1. **Verify Preparation** — Check apical preparation with corresponding hand file. Verify tug-back with master cone.
   - Small = #20 hand file
   - Primary = #25 hand file
   - Medium = #35 hand file
   - Large = #45 hand file
2. **Disinfection & Obturation** — Proceed with your standard disinfection protocol once shape is confirmed (per DFU). Obturate with matching GP cone and bioceramic sealer (per 2025 tip card).
   - Standard irrigation protocol
   - EdgeOne Fire matching GP points and paper points available
   - 2025 tip card recommends bioceramic sealer with matching GP cone

## Clinical Tips

- ALWAYS start with PRIMARY file per DFU — do not pre-select sizes; use SMALL only if PRIMARY does not progress
- Compatible with WaveOne motor settings; 2025 tip card also lists Edge HP presets A/B/C and 350 RPM / 4.0-5.2 Ncm fallback
- FireWire heat treatment may provide improved cyclic fatigue resistance vs Gold-treated NiTi — Gambarini 2019 (PMID 31516658) found ~2x in Medium files at 90°/2mm in vitro (bench data, specific test conditions)
- Reciprocating motion reduces cyclic fatigue accumulation vs continuous rotation
- Single-file system reduces cross-contamination risk — delivered sterile, single-use
- Files may appear slightly curved — this is normal, not a defect; they follow canal anatomy once inside
- EdgeCore carrier-based obturation system available as matching accessory

## Warnings

- Must use reciprocating motor settings — WaveOne-compatible mode or Edge HP presets A/B/C (per 2025 tip card); never continuous rotation
- Single use only - cannot be resterilized or reused
- Contains nickel - do not use on patients with nickel allergy
- Do not use in canals with very severe or sudden apical curvatures
- Clean flutes frequently and check for signs of distortion or wear
- If a file does not easily progress, remove and inspect before re-inserting

## Contraindications

- very severe and sudden curvatures (per sterile DFU)
- known allergic sensitivity to nickel (per sterile DFU)

## Best for

- WaveOne Gold alternative with enhanced fatigue resistance
- single-file reciprocating efficiency
- reduced cross-contamination
