## Protocol

### Glide Path

1. **Access and Initial Scouting** — Prepare straight-line access to the canal orifice. Explore the canal with a #10 and #15 K-file. Establish working length. If the Expeditor meets significant resistance in obtaining working length, the ESX Orifice Opener and/or ESX Scouting Files may be used to facilitate access (per brochure).
   - The ESX QuicKit includes #10 and #15 stiff K-files for initial canal exploration
   - Use the ESX Orifice Opener (#20/.08, 19mm) if coronal constrictions limit access
   - ESX Scouting Files (#15/.02 and #15/.04) may help establish the glide path in calcified or challenging canals
   - ⚠ Do not proceed with the Expeditor if significant resistance is encountered — use scouting files or orifice opener first

### Shaping

1. **ESX Expeditor (#15/.05) to Working Length** — Use the ESX Expeditor at 500-600 RPM with 1.5-2.3 Ncm torque to working length. Use a light touch and the single stroke and clean technique. The engagement level of the Expeditor helps determine the appropriate finishing file size (per brochure). _(File: Expeditor · 500-600 RPM · 1.5-2.3 Ncm · Clockwise continuous rotation with light touch)_
   - Significant engagement to WL suggests finishing with the Small (#25/.04) file
   - Moderate engagement to WL suggests finishing with the Medium (#35/.04) file
   - Minimal engagement to WL suggests finishing with the Large (#45/.04) file
   - No engagement to WL suggests finishing with the Extra-Large (#55/.04) file
   - Use the single stroke and clean technique — advance, withdraw, clean flutes, repeat (per brochure)
   - ⚠ Use a light touch only — do not apply heavy apical pressure
   - ⚠ If significant resistance is met before working length, consider using scouting files or orifice opener

### Finishing

1. **ESX Finishing File to Working Length** — Based on the engagement level of the Expeditor, select the appropriate ESX finishing file (Small, Medium, Large, or Extra-Large). Use the finishing file at 500-600 RPM with 1.5-2.3 Ncm torque to working length with the single stroke and clean technique. _(500-600 RPM · 1.5-2.3 Ncm · Clockwise continuous rotation with light touch)_
   - The two-file approach (Expeditor + one Finishing file) is designed to preserve coronal tooth structure
   - The patented Booster Tip allows the finishing file to follow the canal shape established by the Expeditor
   - Irrigate copiously after completing the finishing file to working length
   - EndoSequence BC Sealer and BC Points (.04 taper) are the synchronized obturation system for ESX (per brochure)
   - ⚠ Do not force the finishing file — use a light touch and let the Booster Tip guide the instrument
   - ⚠ Use only in clockwise continuous rotation

## Clinical Tips

- All ESX files operate at 500-600 RPM with a torque setting of 1.5-2.3 Ncm (per brochure). Any continuous-rotation endodontic motor with torque control may be used.
- The two-file concept (Expeditor + Finishing file) is designed for minimally invasive canal preparation that preserves coronal tooth structure.
- The patented ACP (Alternating Contact Point) design features an asymmetrical flute that alternates between zero to three points of engagement, which may help move debris coronally (per brochure).
- The patented Booster Tip features 6 cutting edges that transition to a reamer design, which may help the file follow the canal shape with reduced risk of ledging (per brochure).
- Electropolished surface finish may improve resistance to cyclic and torsional fatigue compared to non-electropolished instruments (per brochure).
- The Expeditor's engagement level serves as a diagnostic tool to select the appropriate finishing file size for each individual canal.
- Single-use, sterile instruments — provided in individually perforated sterile blister packs (per brochure).
- The ESX system is designed to synchronize with EndoSequence BC obturation and EndoSequence Fiber Post systems (per brochure).

## Warnings

- Single-use, sterile instruments — do not reprocess or reuse
- Use at 500-600 RPM with 1.5-2.3 Ncm torque (per brochure)
- Use a light touch — do not apply heavy apical pressure
- Use the single stroke and clean technique (per brochure)
- Use only in clockwise continuous rotation
- If the Expeditor meets significant resistance, use scouting files or orifice opener first (per brochure)
- Contains nickel-titanium — do not use on patients with known nickel allergy

## Best for

- minimally invasive two-file canal preparation
- conservative coronal tooth structure preservation
- cases where adaptive finishing file size selection is preferred

## Technical profile

- **Category:** multi-file-rotary
- **Heat treatment:** Conventional — ESX instruments use conventional NiTi alloy with a proprietary electropolished finish. The electropolishing process may improve surface quality and fatigue resistance without altering the austenitic phase behavior of the alloy.
- **Manufacturing method:** ground
- **Pre-bendable:** no
- **Reuse:** Single-use
- **Motor:** any-rotary
- **Glide path requirement:** integrated — ESX Scouting Files (#15/.02 and #15/.04) or manual K-files for initial scouting; the Expeditor (#15/.05) serves as the primary glide path and shaping instrument
- **Canal suitability:** Curvature: mild, moderate, severe; Canal size: narrow, normal, wide; Calcified canals: no; Retreatment: no; Conservative access: yes
- **Matching gutta-percha:** Brasseler EndoSequence BC Points, ESX kit wheel (.04 · 15-60)
- **Content revision:** 2026-03-25
