## Protocol

### Glide Path

1. **Establish Access** — After straight-line coronal access, use hand file (max size 20/.02) or rotary glidepath file to establish apical glide path. Place irrigant (NaOCl) in canal.
   - Ensure root canal always remains irrigated and lubricated
   - Check patency using hand file after each step
2. **Coronal Opening** — Use Orifice Opener (18/11) to create coronal access. Place file in canal without running engine. Move back 1mm until free of walls, then start engine. Proceed forward slowly using tapping movements without pressure. _(File: Orifice Opener (18/11) · 400 RPM · 2.5 Ncm)_
   - Do not use this file in the curved part of the root canal
   - Proceed to next step as soon as resistance is felt
3. **Create Glide Path** — Use GlidePath File (15/.03) to working length. Place file in canal without running engine. Move back 1mm until free, then start engine. Proceed forward slowly using tapping movements. _(File: GlidePath (15/.03) · 300 RPM · 1.8 Ncm)_
   - This file is extremely thin - use very carefully
   - Not as breakage resistant as other HyFlex EDM files
   - ⚠ Use more carefully and less often than other files

### Shaping

1. **Shaping File** — Use Shaping File (18/.045) for enlargement to working length. Place file in canal without running engine. Move back 1mm until free, then start engine. Proceed forward slowly using tapping movements without pressure. _(File: Shaping (18/.045) · 400 RPM · 2.5 Ncm)_
   - Return to previous step as soon as resistance is felt
   - Clean spirals after every insertion

### Finishing

1. **Finishing File** — Use Finishing File (30/.04) for final enlargement to working length. Same technique - place without engine, move back 1mm, start engine, proceed with tapping movements. _(File: Finishing (30/.04) · 400 RPM · 2.5 Ncm)_
   - Check patency using hand file
   - Ensure canal remains irrigated and lubricated
2. **Verify Preparation** — Verify preparation is complete. Proceed with irrigation and obturation.
   - Verify tug-back with master cone
   - Reprocessing note: files may be reused if only elastically deformed — shape regenerates during autoclaving (per IFU). No fixed maximum cycle count; condition depends on processing and treatment. Inspect before and after each use.
   - If spirals appear lengthened after autoclaving, discard file

## Clinical Tips

- EDM manufacturing creates compressive surface stresses for superior fatigue resistance
- CM-Wire allows pre-bending that persists during use
- Spirals may lengthen in response to force - prevents binding and reduces breakage risk
- Shape regenerates during autoclaving (or 10 sec in glass bead sterilizer) if elastically deformed
- Files supplied pre-sterilized via gamma irradiation

## Warnings

- Ensure spirals do not wind in opposite direction during use - causes plastic deformation
- If spirals appear lengthened after autoclaving, discard file
- Inspect for unwinding before each use
- Do not use after expiration date
- Discard if any visible defects observed

## Best for

- extreme curvatures
- fatigue resistance priority
- reusable with regeneration

## FAQ

**What alloy is HyFlex EDM made from?**

HyFlex® EDM is manufactured from CM-Wire (EDM manufactured).

**How many files are in the HyFlex EDM sequence?**

The HyFlex® EDM system includes 8 files: Orifice Opener, GlidePath, OneFile, Shaping, Finishing, 40/.04, 50/.03, 60/.02.

**What is the HyFlex EDM file sequence?**

HyFlex® EDM is used in this order: Orifice Opener → GlidePath → OneFile → Shaping → Finishing → 40/.04 → 50/.03 → 60/.02. Per-file speed, torque and technique are in the protocol section above.

**What motion type does HyFlex EDM use?**

HyFlex® EDM uses continuous rotation motion.

**What cases is HyFlex EDM best for?**

HyFlex® EDM is best suited for: extreme curvatures, fatigue resistance priority, reusable with regeneration.

**What speed and torque settings are recommended for HyFlex EDM?**

Recommended settings: 400–300 RPM and 2.5 / 1.8 Ncm across the file sequence (refer to official DFU for full per-file parameters).
