## Protocol

### Glide Path

1. **Establish Access and Glide Path** — Obtain straight-line coronal access. Establish a glide path with hand files. Confirm patency between all rotary files with a #08 hand file.
   - Irrigate copiously, alternating between NaOCl and 17% EDTA
   - Traverse rotary glide path files are compatible for mechanical glide path
   - Use very light pressure throughout — avoid forcing instruments to working length
   - ⚠ Confirm reproducible glide path before starting rotary instrumentation

### Shaping

1. **Crown-Down Shaping** — Using a crown-down technique, begin with larger taper files coronally and work toward smaller tapers apically. K3XF files are available in .04 through .12 tapers, allowing customization for any anatomy. When a file no longer advances apically, proceed to the next file. _(File: K3XF files (.04-.12 taper, 15-60 tip) · 350 RPM · 3.00 Ncm · Continuous rotation)_
   - Use very light pressure — avoid forcing instruments to WL
   - Clean flutes frequently between passes
   - Variable pitch design helps channel debris coronally and reduces screw-in effect
   - Positive rake angle provides active cutting action (same as K3 design)
2. **Apical Sizing** — Select final apical file size based on canal anatomy. Smaller tapers (.04, .06) for apical work, larger tapers (.08, .10, .12) for coronal flaring and orifice opening. _(File: K3XF at selected taper and tip size · 350 RPM · 3.00 Ncm · Continuous rotation)_
   - 6 taper options (.02-.12 in K3; .04-.12 in K3XF) allow infinite technique customization
   - .10 and .12 tapers also available in 17mm length for posterior access
   - Irrigate and recapitulate between all files

### Finishing

1. **Final Irrigation and Obturation** — Complete final irrigation protocol. Obturate with matching K3/K3XF gutta percha and paper points. Matching points available in .04 and .06 tapers; .08 and .10 taper points also available.
   - K3/K3XF matching gutta percha available in .04 and .06 tapers
   - K3XF Autofit paper points available in .08 taper
   - K3XF gutta percha points available in .08 and .10 tapers

## Clinical Tips

- Same proven K3 asymmetric triple-fluted design plus R-Phase heat treatment for added flexibility and cyclic fatigue resistance (per product page)
- R-Phase technology — post-machining heat treatment (ground, not twisted) transforms NiTi for improved properties (per Kerr summary)
- Asymmetric cross-section: wide radial land with recessed trailing edge reduces friction, third radial land provides centering (per K3 brochure)
- Variable pitch design reduces screw-in effect and channels debris coronally (per K3 brochure)
- Positive rake angle for active cutting action (per K3 brochure)
- Available in 6 tapers (.04 through .12) with tip sizes from 15 to 60 — highly versatile system
- Compatible with Elements Motor preset: 350 RPM / 3.00 Ncm (per Elements Connect IFU; same combined K3/K3XF preset across the Elements motor family)
- Safe-ended (non-cutting) tip follows canal shape while helping to reduce apical transportation
- .10 and .12 taper files available in 17mm length for improved posterior access

## Warnings

- Contains nickel — do not use on patients with known nickel allergy
- Inspect files for deformation or wear before each use
- Do not force instruments to working length — use very light pressure
- Irrigate copiously and frequently throughout the procedure
- Clean flutes frequently and at least after each removal from the canal
- Use only in electric motor and handpiece designed for rotary files

## Best for

- versatile multi-taper rotary shaping
- clinicians familiar with K3 technique
- cases requiring wide taper selection (.04-.12)

## FAQ

**What alloy is K3XF made from?**

K3XF™ is manufactured from R-Phase™ Heat-Treated NiTi.

**How many files are in the K3XF sequence?**

The K3XF™ system includes 24 files: 15/.04, 20/.04, 25/.04, 30/.04, 35/.04, 40/.04, 15/.06, 20/.06, 25/.06, 30/.06, 35/.06, 40/.06, 20/.08, 25/.08, 30/.08, 40/.08, 20/.10, 25/.10, 30/.10, 40/.10, 20/.12, 25/.12, 30/.12, 40/.12.

**What is the K3XF file sequence?**

K3XF is a taper matrix rather than a fixed sequence: the DFU describes a crown-down approach in which larger tapers (.08 to .12) open the coronal portion and smaller tapers (.04, .06) take the apical work, moving to the next file when the current one stops advancing. The final apical size is chosen from the canal anatomy. The protocol section above lists speed, torque and the available tapers.

**What motion type does K3XF use?**

K3XF™ uses continuous rotation motion.

**What cases is K3XF best for?**

K3XF™ is best suited for: versatile multi-taper rotary shaping, clinicians familiar with K3 technique, cases requiring wide taper selection (.04-.12).

**What speed and torque settings are recommended for K3XF?**

Recommended settings: 350 RPM and 3.00 Ncm across the file sequence (refer to official DFU for full per-file parameters).
