# One Shape®

> Single-File Rotary Simplicity

- **Manufacturer:** Micro-Mega (COLTENE)
- **Motion:** Continuous Rotation
- **Alloy:** Conventional NiTi
- **Key feature:** Single-file continuous rotation with variable asymmetric cross-section (3 to 2 cutting edges) and ABC anti-breakage control

## Specifications

| File | Tip (mm) | Taper | Length | Cross-section | Motion | Speed (rpm) | Torque | Role |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 25/.06 | 0.25 | 6% | 21mm, 25mm, 29mm | Variable asymmetric (3→2 cutting edges) | Continuous Rotation | 350-450 | 2.5 Ncm | shaping |

## Protocol

### Glide Path

1. **Access Cavity and Glide Path** — Take a preoperative radiograph to assess canal anatomy and establish estimated working length (EWL). Establish straight-line access to expose canal orifices. Remove coronal constrictions with ENDOFLARE or a similar flaring technique. Scout each canal with a #10 stainless steel K-file.
   - If #10 K-file reaches EWL easily and #15 K-file can also reach EWL, proceed directly with One Shape
   - If #10 K-file cannot reach EWL, use G-Files (G1 then G2) to establish the glide path before One Shape
   - Confirm working length with #15 K-file and apex locator before using One Shape
   - ⚠ Do not use One Shape without first confirming a reproducible glide path to at least #15
   - ⚠ ENDOFLARE penetration is limited to 3 mm below the pulp chamber floor

### Shaping

1. **Shaping with One Shape 25/.06** — Irrigate thoroughly with sodium hypochlorite. Place One Shape to 2/3 of working length using an in-and-out movement without pressure. Perform an upward circumferential filing movement to pre-enlarge. Withdraw, clean, irrigate, and check patency with a #10 K-file. Reintroduce to 3 mm from working length using the same technique. Withdraw, clean, irrigate, recheck patency. Reintroduce and advance to full working length. Working length may be reached in one or more passages depending on canal complexity. _(File: 25/.06 · 350-450 RPM · 2.5 Ncm (max) · In-and-out without pressure)_
   - A chelating gel (EDTA cream) may be used during shaping
   - Remove and clean the instrument whenever apical resistance or a slight pull is felt
   - An upward circumferential filing movement may be performed after reaching working length if needed
   - In resistant canals, use a slightly longer in-and-out stroke for additional debris removal
   - ⚠ Never force the instrument apically — use light in-and-out movements only
   - ⚠ If significant resistance is encountered, withdraw, irrigate, recheck patency with a #10 hand file, then continue

### Finishing

1. **Final Irrigation and Obturation** — After reaching working length, perform thorough final irrigation with sodium hypochlorite and EDTA. Dry the canal with paper points and obturate with a 25/.06 gutta-percha master cone. Warm vertical compaction or cold lateral condensation may be used.
   - Check apical patency before final irrigation
   - Use a 25/.06 taper gutta-percha cone matching the One Shape preparation
   - Irrigate thoroughly with sodium hypochlorite between each instrument passage

## Clinical Tips

- One Shape uses 350-450 RPM with a maximum torque of 2.5 Ncm (per ENDObook). Any continuous-rotation endodontic motor may be used — no specific motor is needed.
- The variable asymmetric cross-section (3 cutting edges apically, transitioning to 2 coronally) provides optimal cutting in three canal zones and reduces the screwing effect.
- ABC (Anti Breakage Control): the instrument will unwind before separating, providing a safety margin.
- Technique is progressive: advance to 2/3 WL first, then to WL minus 3 mm, then to full WL — withdrawing, cleaning, irrigating, and checking patency between each stage.
- In tight or curved canals, use slightly longer in-and-out strokes for debris removal.
- G-Files (G1 + G2) are the recommended mechanical glide path instruments when a #10 K-file cannot reach estimated working length.
- Single-use instrument — recommended for treatment of one tooth only (per brochure).

## Warnings

- Single-use, sterile instrument — do not reprocess or reuse
- Do not use without first establishing a glide path to at least #15 K-file
- Never force the instrument apically — use light in-and-out movements only
- If significant resistance is encountered, withdraw, clean, irrigate, and recheck patency before continuing
- Contains nickel-titanium — do not use on patients with known nickel allergy
- No manufacturer IFU is publicly available; speed and torque sourced from manufacturer ENDObook (350-450 RPM, max 2.5 Ncm)

## Best for

- single-file rotary simplicity
- efficient continuous rotation shaping
- cost-effective one-instrument workflow

## Technical profile

- **Category:** single-file-rotary
- **Heat treatment:** Conventional — One Shape uses conventional NiTi without heat treatment. The alloy is austenitic at body temperature, providing superelastic behavior.
- **Manufacturing method:** ground
- **Pre-bendable:** no
- **Reuse:** Single-use
- **Motor:** any-rotary
- **Glide path requirement:** manual-only — Manual #10-#15 K-files; G-Files (G1 + G2) for canals where #10 K-file cannot reach estimated working length
- **Canal suitability:** Curvature: mild, moderate; Canal size: narrow, normal; Calcified canals: no; Retreatment: no; Conservative access: no
- **Content revision:** 2026-03-22
