## Protocol

### Glide Path

1. **Establish Glide Path with Slider** — In the presence of a lubricant (NaOCl or EDTA), select the Slider (15/.02v) and passively follow the canal in one or more passes to its terminus. Determine working length using an electronic apex locator in combination with a radiographic image, then confirm patency. _(File: Slider · 400 RPM · 4.0-5.2 Ncm)_
   - The Slider is K-file free — it can be used directly to start the glide path in most cases
   - If the Slider does not easily reach the canal terminus, select a small-sized manual SS hand file to catheterize, establish WL, confirm patency, verify Slidepath, then retry Slider
   - Cradle the handpiece in the webbing between thumb and index finger
   - Let the file passively progress — do not push
   - ⚠ If the Slider cannot reach WL, establish manual glide path with #10 K-file first
   - ⚠ Never force the Slider apically
2. **Orifice Opening with SX (Optional)** — The auxiliary SX (20/.03v) may be used when there is restrictive coronal space, to pre-enlarge the body of a canal, or to relocate the coronal-most aspect of a canal away from an external root concavity. _(File: SX · 400 RPM · 4.0-5.2 Ncm)_
   - Use only when coronal access is restrictive
   - Brush outward away from furcation
   - Available in 19mm length only

### Shaping

1. **Coronal Shaping — Shaper** — In the presence of NaOCl, select the Shaper (20/.04v) and advance along the Slidepath in one or more passes until the working length is reached. Use an outward brushing motion in irregular canals, or light inward pecking to advance. _(File: Shaper · 400 RPM · 4.0-5.2 Ncm · Outward brushing or light pecking)_
   - Enhanced cutting efficiency for coronal 2/3
   - Gold heat treatment provides flexibility and fatigue resistance
   - Always brush away from furcation
   - Upon removing Shaper: irrigate, EndoActivate to break up debris, then re-irrigate (per IFU step 7)
   - ⚠ Reconfirm working length after shaping, especially in curved canals
   - ⚠ Do not leave file at WL longer than necessary

### Finishing

1. **Apical Finishing — F1** — Select F1 (20/.07v) and passively follow the canal to working length in one or more passes. Remove and inspect its apical flutes. When loaded with dentinal debris, the preparation is finished. _(File: F1 · 400 RPM · 4.0-5.2 Ncm · Passive advancement to WL)_
   - F1 finishes most narrow/average canals
   - If F1 apical flutes are loaded with debris → canal is ready for obturation
   - If F1 is loose at WL and flutes are clean → proceed to F2
   - Preparation is finished when apical flutes are loaded with debris AND corresponding GPMC or Size Verifier fits at WL (per IFU)
   - ⚠ Clean and inspect flutes upon removal for unwinding or deformation
2. **Apical Finishing — F2 (If Needed)** — If F1 is loose at WL and its apical flutes are not loaded with debris, select F2 (25/.08v) and use in the same manner. Inspect apical flutes. _(File: F2 · 400 RPM · 4.0-5.2 Ncm · Passive advancement to WL)_
   - Use only if F1 was loose at WL
   - F2 finishes most standard canals
   - Verify tug-back with matching gutta-percha point
   - ⚠ If deformation is noted, discard and use a new file
3. **Apical Finishing — F3 (If Needed)** — If F2 is loose at WL and its apical flutes are not loaded with debris, select F3 (30/.09v) and use in the same manner. _(File: F3 · 400 RPM · 4.0-5.2 Ncm · Passive advancement to WL)_
   - Use only if F2 was loose at WL
   - For larger apical preparations
   - ⚠ Only proceed if previous finisher was loose at WL
4. **Auxiliary Finishers — FX / FXL (Large Canals Only)** — For large and straight canals only (e.g., maxillary central incisors, palatal/distal canals of molars, or pathologic/iatrogenic defects). FX (35/.12v) or FXL (50/.10v) use Blue heat treatment for enhanced flexibility. _(File: FX / FXL · 400 RPM · 4.0-5.2 Ncm · Passive advancement to WL)_
   - Blue heat treatment — enhanced flexibility and fatigue resistance vs Gold NiTi (per manufacturer)
   - FX for #35 gauge canals, FXL for #50 gauge canals
   - Use only in straight or mildly curved, large canals
   - ⚠ Do NOT use in curved canals — these are for large straight canals only
   - ⚠ Inspect for unwinding, straightening, or stretching after use

## Clinical Tips

- Slider-first glide path: Slider can often be used without prior K-file (67% of cases per Dentsply user study). If Slider does not easily reach terminus, use a small SS hand file first, establish WL/patency, then retry Slider (per IFU)
- Only one Shaper needed for coronal 2/3 enlargement
- Triple heat treatment: M-Wire (Slider), Gold (Shaper/F1-F3), Blue (FX/FXL)
- Blue heat treatment on FX/FXL: dedicated for large straight canals
- Manufacturer reports 32% faster glide path and shaping vs ProGlider + PTG up to F2 (product page bench data, not independent clinical validation)
- Manufacturer reports F1: +13% flexibility, +75% cyclic fatigue resistance vs PTG F1 (fact file bench data)
- Manufacturer reports F2: +30% flexibility, +30% cyclic fatigue resistance vs PTG F2 (fact file bench data)
- Manufacturer reports higher unwinding resistance vs previous generations (fact file bench data; Diaconu 2024 supports improved cyclic fatigue vs PTG F2 in vitro, PMID 38667542)
- Use outward brushing motion away from furcation in irregular canals, or light inward pecking to advance
- Dedicated hand-use version available for all PTU files with same technical features
- Compatible with ProTaper Ultimate Conform Fit GP points and absorbent points
- For extremely curved canals: use single canal per file and consider manual files in apical region (per IFU)

## Warnings

- Single-use only — do not reprocess or reuse
- Contains nickel-titanium — allergic or toxic reactions may occur in sensitive patients (per IFU)
- Discard if any unwinding, straightening, or stretching is observed
- Do not fully immerse in NaOCl — only working part in max 5% concentration (per IFU)
- FX and FXL are for large, straight canals only — do not use in curved canals
- Inspect cutting flutes upon removal from every canal
- Always reconfirm working length after shaping, especially in curved canals
- In severe curvatures: machine-driven use may not be appropriate in abrupt apical curves — use pre-curved hand files apically (per IFU)

## Best for

- 5th generation ProTaper evolution
- K-file free workflow
- complex anatomy with manual fallback for severe curves
