## Protocol

### Glide Path

1. **Scout Canal** — In presence of lubricant, use #10 K-file to verify canal patency and determine working length using a radiograph; electronic WL determination can also be used (per IFU).
   - Pre-curve file for curved canals
   - Use watch-winding motion
   - Verify smooth, reproducible glide path to at least loose #10
2. **R-Motion Glider to Working Length** — Use R-Motion Glider (15/.03 variable taper) in reciprocating mode to establish mechanical glide path to full working length. For calcified or severely curved canals, use R-Motion Glider C (austenitic, stiffer) instead. _(File: R-Motion Glider (15/.03v) or Glider C · Reciprocating (auto preset on Rooter X3000/X4000) · Reciprocating)_
   - Glider C is austenitic (no heat treatment) — stiffer for calcified/severely curved canals
   - Use gentle inward pecking motion with short amplitude strokes
   - Irrigate, recapitulate with #10, re-irrigate after reaching WL
   - Most cases require only Glider + one shaping file (2-instrument protocol)

### Shaping

1. **Choose Shaping File** — Select R-Motion 25 (.06 taper) or R-Motion 30 (.04 taper) based on your therapeutic approach. R-Motion 25 provides more coronal flare, while R-Motion 30 offers a more conservative preparation with larger apical size. _(File: R-Motion 25 (.06) or R-Motion 30 (.04) · Reciprocating (auto preset) · Reciprocating)_
   - R-Motion 25 (.06): more coronal flare for irrigation access
   - R-Motion 30 (.04): more conservative with larger apical diameter
   - Most cases need only 2 instruments total (Glider + shaping file)
   - Use gentle inward pressure, let the file passively progress
   - ⚠ Never use continuous rotation
   - ⚠ Do not force file apically
2. **Intermediate Shaping (Narrow Canals)** — If the selected shaping file does not progress easily, use R-Motion 20 (.04 taper) first as an intermediate step, then return to the chosen shaping file. _(File: R-Motion 20 (.04) · Reciprocating (auto preset) · Reciprocating)_
   - Use only when R-Motion 25 or 30 encounters resistance
   - After R-Motion 20 reaches WL, return to the chosen shaping file
   - Irrigate and recapitulate between files

### Finishing

1. **Enlarge if Needed** — If a larger apical preparation is clinically indicated, continue with R-Motion 40 (.04) or R-Motion 50 (.04) to working length. _(File: R-Motion 40 (.04) or R-Motion 50 (.04) · Reciprocating (auto preset) · Reciprocating)_
   - R-Motion 40 for medium-large canals requiring larger apical preparation
   - R-Motion 50 for wide canals
   - Verify preparation with corresponding hand file
2. **Verify and Disinfect** — Check apical preparation with corresponding hand file. Verify tug-back with master cone. Proceed with final irrigation and disinfection protocols.
   - R-Motion 25 = #25 hand file
   - R-Motion 30 = #30 hand file
   - R-Motion 40 = #40 hand file
   - R-Motion 50 = #50 hand file
   - Proceed with deep cleaning after shaping (per IFU)
   - R-Motion Finisher recommended for optimal cleaning results (per IFU)

## Clinical Tips

- Most cases require only 2 instruments: Glider + one shaping file
- Compatible with any endo motor offering reciprocating counterclockwise mode
- FKG Rooter X3000/X4000 has auto-preset for R-Motion (F: auto, R: auto in REC mode)
- Manufacturer reports improved cyclic fatigue resistance, flexibility, and reduced dentine stress vs standard reciprocating systems (internal lab data — exact figures not independently verified from accessible primary sources)
- Heat-treated NiTi allows pre-bending for curved canal access
- Electrochemical polishing provides smooth surface finish
- Rounded triangular cross-section optimizes cutting efficiency and debris removal
- Thinner core design reduces dentine stress during instrumentation

## Warnings

- Must use reciprocating (CCW >> CW) motor settings - never continuous rotation
- Single use only - cannot be resterilized or reused
- Contains nickel-titanium and silicone — do not use on patients with known sensitivity (per IFU)
- Do not force file apically - let it progress passively
- Clean flutes frequently and check for signs of distortion or wear
- If a file does not easily progress, remove and inspect before re-inserting
- Performance claims (3.6x fatigue, 42% flexibility, etc.) are manufacturer-reported internal lab results

## Best for

- minimally invasive reciprocation
- lower dentine stress
- wide curvature accommodation
