## Protocol

### Glide Path

1. **Access and Patency** — Place rubber dam. Obtain straight-line coronal access with slightly diverging axial walls. Achieve apical patency with #08 hand file, then #10, then #15 K-file. Flood pulp chamber with NaOCl.
   - Straight-line access may improve adaptive motion efficiency
   - M4 Safety Handpiece can be used for glide path
   - Traverse rotary glide path files are compatible
   - ⚠ Minimum ISO #15 K-file to working length required
   - ⚠ Never begin rotary instrumentation without confirmed glide path
2. **Determine Sequence: SM or ML** — Assess canal size with #15 K-file at working length. If #15 K-file is tight or struggles to reach WL, select Small (SM) sequence. If #15 K-file feels loose at WL, select Medium/Large (ML) sequence.
   - SM sequence: for narrow, sclerotic, and severely curved canals
   - ML sequence: for normal to wide canals with moderate curvature
   - Color system: Green = Go, Yellow = Continue or Stop, Red = Stop

### Shaping

1. **Green File (SM1 or ML1)** — Set Elements Motor to TF Adaptive mode. Slowly advance Green file with single controlled motion until file engages dentin, then completely withdraw. Do not force apically. Do not peck. Wipe flutes, irrigate, confirm patency with #15 K-file. Repeat until file reaches working length. _(File: SM1 (20/.04) or ML1 (25/.08) · TF Adaptive mode · TF Adaptive mode · Adaptive (auto rotation/reciprocation))_
   - SM1 also serves as an excellent flexible glide path file
   - Single controlled motion — not pecking
   - File may be used in a brushing manner on outstroke (anti-curvature)
   - ⚠ Requires Elements Motor or e-motion with TF Adaptive program
   - ⚠ Never use continuous rotation — motor must be in Adaptive mode
2. **Yellow File (SM2 or ML2)** — Same technique as Green file. Advance Yellow file with single controlled motion to working length. Wipe, irrigate, confirm patency between passes. _(File: SM2 (25/.06) or ML2 (35/.06) · TF Adaptive mode · TF Adaptive mode · Adaptive)_
   - After ML1 (.08 taper), ML2 often goes effortlessly to WL
   - Yellow = Continue or Stop point — evaluate if further shaping is needed
   - Achieving MAF of ML2 or larger enables EndoVac negative-pressure irrigation
   - ⚠ Observe file unwinding as cautionary sign before separation

### Finishing

1. **Red File (SM3 or ML3) - If Needed** — Use Red file only if larger apical size is desired. Same single controlled motion technique. SM3 (35/.04) or ML3 (50/.04) to working length. _(File: SM3 (35/.04) or ML3 (50/.04) · TF Adaptive mode · TF Adaptive mode · Adaptive)_
   - Red = Stop point — do not proceed beyond Red file
   - SM3 (35/.04) provides adequate apical size for most small canals
   - ML3 (50/.04) is the maximum safe size for medium/large canals
   - ⚠ Only use if clinically indicated — do not over-enlarge
   - ⚠ Reduce hand pressure if file shows unwinding
2. **Obturation** — Perform final irrigation protocol. Use TF Adaptive matching gutta-percha and paper points for obturation.
   - Matching GP/PP available in SM and ML sizes
   - Standard irrigation protocol

## Clinical Tips

- Adaptive motion: automatically transitions between rotation and reciprocation based on canal stress (per product page)
- R-Phase NiTi is twisted (not ground) — preserves grain structure, reduces microfractures (per manufacturer)
- Files can be pre-curved (R-Phase allows shape setting at lower temperatures)
- Simplified technique: #10/#15 SS files → Traverse .13/.06 → TF Adaptive ML1 handles majority of anatomies (per current product page)
- Adaptive motion automatically adjusts to canal load — may reduce instrument stress compared to fixed-motion systems (per manufacturer positioning)
- Color-coded traffic light system: Green = Go, Yellow = Continue/Stop, Red = Stop
- 8:1 contra-angle handpiece required
- Available in 23mm and 27mm lengths only

## Warnings

- REQUIRES Kerr Elements Motor or elements e-motion — do not use with standard rotary motors
- Motor must be set to TF Adaptive program mode — never use continuous rotation
- Contains nickel — do not use on patients with nickel allergy
- File unwinding is a cautionary sign — reduce hand pressure or discard
- Inspect for distortion or deformation before each use
- Do not leave file at working length under load — advance and withdraw

## Best for

- adaptive motion (auto rotation/reciprocation)
- severely curved canals
- automatic load-based motion switching
