## Protocol

### Glide Path

1. **Scout and Determine Working Length** — Prepare access cavity and estimate working length from radiograph. Scout coronal two-thirds with ISO #10 C-PILOT file. Determine working length using electronic apex locator and confirm patency.
   - Pre-curve hand files for curved canals
   - Confirm reproducible glide path to at least ISO #15
   - Use chelating agent during scouting
   - ⚠ Never force hand files apically
   - ⚠ Establish patency before rotary use
2. **Mechanized Glide Path - 15/.04** — Use VDW.ROTATE 15/.04 to working length. Two technique options: (a) Pecking motion with 1-3 mm gentle amplitudes, or (b) Brushing motion by inserting without touching walls then stroking coronally. _(File: 15/.04 · 300-400 RPM · 1.3 Ncm · Pecking or brushing)_
   - Choose pecking or brushing based on canal anatomy
   - Brushing useful for coronal flaring in wider canals
   - Inspect instrument for deformation after use
   - ⚠ Very light apical pressure only
   - ⚠ Irrigate and verify patency after this step

### Shaping

1. **Shaping - 20/.05** — Use VDW.ROTATE 20/.05 to working length using pecking or brushing motion. Irrigate, verify patency, and establish final working length with apex locator. _(File: 20/.05 · 300-400 RPM · 2.1 Ncm · Pecking or brushing)_
   - Let the file do the work with minimal apical pressure
   - Clean flutes after every 2-3 passes
   - Re-confirm working length with apex locator after shaping
   - ⚠ Do not force if resistance is felt

### Finishing

1. **Finishing - 25/.06 (Standard) or 25/.04 (Curved)** — Choose based on canal anatomy: 25/.06 for the majority of cases, or 25/.04 for narrow and highly curved canals. Advance to working length. Gauge foramen with ISO #25 hand file to confirm snug fit. _(File: 25/.06 or 25/.04 · 300-400 RPM · 2.3 Ncm · Pecking or brushing)_
   - 25/.06 is the standard finishing file for most canals
   - 25/.04 preserves more dentin in severely curved canals
   - Verify tug-back with #25 hand file at working length
   - ⚠ Select 25/.04 for narrow or highly curved canals to reduce risk
2. **Extended Apical Enlargement (If Needed)** — For increased apical enlargement, continue with larger sizes (30/.04, 35/.04, 40/.04, or 30/.06). Use same technique. Gauge foramen with corresponding hand file. _(File: 30/.04 - 40/.04 or 30/.06 · 300-400 RPM · 2.0-2.3 Ncm (size-dependent) · Pecking or brushing)_
   - Only enlarge further if clinically indicated
   - Larger .04 taper files preserve more coronal dentin
   - .06 taper options available for sizes 30-40 when more flare is desired
   - ⚠ Do not over-enlarge in thin roots
   - ⚠ Always verify canal wall integrity
3. **Obturation** — Irrigate thoroughly. Use matching VDW.ROTATE gutta-percha points or warm obturation technique.
   - VDW.ROTATE matching GP points available for all finishing sizes
   - Warm vertical compaction compatible

## Clinical Tips

- All files use 300-400 RPM (IFU range); torque varies: 1.3 Ncm (15/.04), 2.1 Ncm (20/.05), 2.3 Ncm (25-60), 2.0 Ncm (30/.04, 30/.06). Note: VDW literature uses cNm (centinewton-meter), numerically equivalent to Ncm.
- Files are pre-set in VDW.CONNECT Drive motor for automatic settings
- Adapted S cross-section provides more space for debris removal than centered designs
- Files can be pre-curved thanks to heat treatment
- Both pecking and brushing techniques are valid — choose based on canal anatomy
- R25/.05 retreatment file available at 400 RPM / 3.5 Ncm for GP removal
- Use dedicated VDW.ROTATE paper points and gutta-percha points or GuttaFusion for obturation (per IFU)

## Warnings

- Reusable sterile instrument per 2023 IFU — cleaned undamaged instruments can be used up to 8 processing cycles; silicone stops are single-use
- Contains nickel — do not use on patients with nickel allergy
- Always inspect flutes for deformation between uses — discard if any unwinding detected
- Do not fully immerse in NaOCl — working part only, max 5% concentration (per IFU)
- Do not use in root canals with abrupt apical curvatures — use pre-curved hand files instead
- R25/.05 retreatment file uses different settings (400 RPM / 3.5 Ncm) — do not confuse with shaping settings
- Never force files apically — allow cutting action to progress naturally
- In severe curvatures: use the instrument manually; do not use in abrupt apical curvatures — use pre-curved hand files instead (per 2023 IFU)
- For extremely curved canals: use file for one canal only and consider manual files (per IFU)

## Best for

- simplified 3-file workflow
- versatile pecking or brushing technique
- broad canal size range with extended files
