## Protocol

### Glide Path

1. **Scout Canal with K-files** — Create straight-line access. Negotiate all root canals to their terminus with stainless steel Lexicon K-Files, in the presence of ProLube root canal conditioner. Establish patency by taking a #10 K-File past the canal terminus and at least a #15 K-File to the terminus.
   - Pre-curve K-files for curved canals
   - Use ProLube (EDTA-based conditioner) during negotiation per DFU
   - Verify smooth, reproducible glide path to at least loose #15
2. **Establish Glide Path** — Ensure a reproducible glide path to working length using #10 and #15 K-files (Lexicon or equivalent). The glide path must be confirmed before using any rotary Vortex Blue file.
   - #10 K-file must pass terminus; #15 K-file must reach terminus
   - Use lubricant (EDTA gel) during negotiation
   - Irrigate with NaOCl between hand file passes
   - ⚠ Do not use rotary files without confirmed glide path
   - ⚠ Do not force hand files apically

### Shaping

1. **Crown-Down: Small Canals** — For small canals, start with 30/.04 and advance toward the working length. If resistance is met, crown-down to smaller files (25/.04, 20/.04, 15/.04) to establish a path, then return to the larger file. Recapitulate with #10 or #15 K-file between each rotary file. _(File: 30/.04 (start) → crown-down as needed · 500 RPM · Continuous rotation)_
   - Use minimal apical pressure — let the file do the work
   - Recapitulate with #10 or #15 K-file between each file
   - Irrigate with NaOCl between each file change
   - Take any file to length only one time and for no more than 1 second
   - Inspect files for distortion or wear between uses
   - ⚠ Do not force files — if resistance is met, crown-down to a smaller size
   - ⚠ Do not choose overly large files for the canal anatomy
2. **Crown-Down: Large Canals** — For large canals, start with 40/.04 and advance toward the working length. If resistance is met, crown-down to smaller files (30/.04, 25/.04) to establish a path, then return to the larger file. Recapitulate with #10 or #15 K-file between each rotary file. _(File: 40/.04 (start) → crown-down as needed · 500 RPM · Continuous rotation)_
   - Larger starting file removes more coronal dentin for improved access
   - Follow the same crown-down principle as small canals
   - Always recapitulate with hand files between rotary passes

### Finishing

1. **Taper Selection Guidance** — Use .06 taper files for the coronal portion of canals with mild to moderate curvatures. Use .04 taper files past mid-root in canals with moderate to severe curvature. The .04 taper provides greater flexibility in curved regions while the .06 taper provides more efficient coronal enlargement.

   - .04 taper for mid-root to apical in moderate/severe curvatures
