## Protocol

### Glide Path

1. **Access and Working Length** — Create straight-line access. Locate canal orifices. Obtain patency and establish working length with hand files and electronic apex locator.
   - Use hand files #08, #10, #15 for initial exploration
   - Confirm reproducible path to working length before rotary use
   - ⚠ Never force hand files apically
   - ⚠ Establish minimum ISO #15 glide path
2. **Establish Glide Path** — Create mechanical glide path using Traverse glide path files (Kerr) or manual K-files. Traverse Orifice Opener (25/.08, 17mm) can be used for coronal pre-flaring, followed by Traverse 13/.06 or 18/.06. _(File: Traverse or K-files)_
   - Traverse files are designed to work with ZenFlex
   - Manual K-files #10-#20 are acceptable alternative

### Shaping

1. **Select Taper Strategy** — Small/curved canals: start with 20/.04. Medium/large canals: start with 25/.06 (per advanced technique card). Both sets use the same technique.
   - .04 taper: more conservative, better for curved/narrow canals
   - .06 taper: more coronal flare, better irrigation access
2. **Sequential Shaping - Start with #20** — Begin with the #20 file of your chosen taper set. Advance with single controlled motion until file engages dentin, then completely withdraw. Do not force apically. Do not peck. Wipe flutes, irrigate with NaOCl, confirm patency with #10 K-file. _(File: 20/.04 or 20/.06 · 500 RPM · 1.0 Ncm (.04) or 2.0 Ncm (.06) · Single controlled motion to resistance)_
   - Light pressure only — let the file do the work
   - Each instrument to resistance for no longer than 5-7 seconds
   - Clean and inspect flutes after each withdrawal
   - ⚠ Do not force file apically
   - ⚠ Do not leave file rotating at resistance point
3. **Progressive Shaping - #25** — Advance to #25 file of the same taper set to working length. Same technique: single controlled motion, withdraw, irrigate, confirm patency. _(File: 25/.04 or 25/.06 · 500 RPM · 1.0 Ncm (.04) or 2.0 Ncm (.06))_
   - #25 finishes many standard canals
   - Gauge with #25 hand file to verify preparation

### Finishing

1. **Apical Finishing - #30 and Beyond (If Needed)** — Continue with #30 and larger files only if previous file is loose at working length. Progress through 30, 35, 40 as needed. Gauge with corresponding hand file. _(File: #30-#40 (.04 or .06 taper) · 500 RPM · 3.0 Ncm (.04) or 3.5 Ncm (.06))_
   - Larger sizes (45-55) available for wide canals
   - Torque increases for sizes #30 and above
   - Verify adequate apical preparation with hand file gauge
   - ⚠ Do not over-enlarge — respect root anatomy
   - ⚠ Exercise additional caution in canals with severe curvature (30°+)
2. **Final Irrigation and Obturation** — Proceed with your standard irrigation and disinfection protocol. Use matching ZenFlex gutta-percha points for obturation.
   - Matching ZenFlex GP points available (per product page)
   - Standard irrigation protocol

## Clinical Tips

- All files use 500 RPM; torque varies by taper and size
- Controlled-memory alloy provides excellent flexibility without shape memory spring-back
- Violet titanium oxide surface layer is characteristic of the heat treatment
- 1mm flute diameter (20% smaller than competitors) for minimally invasive shaping
- Can also be used in Adaptive Motion on Kerr elements e-motion motor
- Available in 21mm, 25mm, and 31mm lengths for all sizes
- Must be cleaned and sterilized before first use (non-sterile out of box)
- Assorted packs available: .04 Asst (20-45) and .06 Asst (20-45)

## Warnings

- Single-use only — do not reuse, risk of cross-contamination and breakage
- Contains nickel, brass, and titanium — do not use on patients with sensitivity
- Must be sterilized before first use: autoclave 132°C/4 min pre-vacuum or 121°C/30 min gravity
- Do NOT sterilize in chemical sterilization unit (causes corrosion)
- Exercise additional caution in canals with severe or sudden apical curvatures due to heightened separation risk
- Inspect for deformation, breakage, fractures, or corrosion before use
- Use rubber dam to avoid accidental aspiration or ingestion

## Best for

- minimally invasive shaping
- controlled-memory flexibility
- dual taper strategy (.04/.06)
