What Changed in NiTi IFUs

A dated log of manufacturer-document changes, regional differences and supersessions verified while maintaining the EndoGuide database — 2025–2026.

Why this page exists

Manufacturer instructions are not static: torque values move between document revisions, units differ between regions, reuse framing changes between generations, and a consolidated fact sheet can reverse an earlier answer. Motor presets, textbooks and forum posts often keep repeating the older value. This page records, with dates, the document-level changes and differences EndoGuide has verified — so a number that looks "wrong" can be traced to the document generation it came from.

How to read the entries

Each entry shows what the older source stated, what the newer governing source states, and which document type takes precedence. Entries describe documents, not clinical technique. Regional documents can legitimately differ from each other; the current IFU packaged with the instrument in your market remains the final reference before clinical use.

Older regional documents and technique cards circulated flat torque values (a widely copied 5.2 Ncm traces to a technique card, not a DFU); the NAM 2021 IFU prints flat gram-centimeter values (520 / 150 / 312 g·cm).
Newer / governing source
The current EUR (2026-02) and non-EUR (2024-11) IFUs print torque as RANGES at 300 rpm: SX/S1 5–6 Ncm, S2/F1 1.5–2 Ncm, F2–F5 3–4 Ncm.
What governs
The manufacturer's current IFU for your region governs; the printed unit and format differ by region (Ncm ranges in EUR documents, g·cm flat values in the NAM document).

ProTaper Gold — reuse framing

The superseded 2017 ROW DFU framed reuse numerically: up to 5 uses, with a canal-count table (8/4/2 canals by curvature class).
Newer / governing source
The US 2021 document uses sterile single-use framing, while the current EUR documents (2024/2026) describe multiple use per Dentsply's General Processing Instructions, without the old numeric canal table.
What governs
Reuse policy is region- and document-generation-dependent; three different framings have existed across generations of the same product's documents.

The 2025 catalog printed a flat 400 rpm / 3.0 Ncm for the line, and the draft IFU listed S1 as 17/.02; a first manufacturer answer called the printed 18 a typo.
Newer / governing source
The consolidated 2026-08 fact sheet — the manufacturer's declared top authority — reverses both: S1 = 18/.02 in every U tier, torque graduated by file (SX/S1 5.0 · S2/F1 1.5 · F2–F5 3.0 Ncm at 300 rpm), F4 = 40/.04, plus an untreated U tier at 250–300 rpm.
What governs
Manufacturer answers can flip between documents; the dated, consolidated fact sheet supersedes both the catalog and the draft IFUs.

NIC U+ vs U-Blue speeds

Catalog and draft IFU appeared to conflict: 400 rpm flat versus 300 rpm graduated for the same line.
Newer / governing source
The manufacturer clarified there was no conflict: the two sources described different wires — U+ (gold) runs 300 rpm with graduated torque, U-Blue runs 400 rpm / 3.0 Ncm; same NiTi wire, different heat treatment.
What governs
When two documents disagree, they may be describing different product variants rather than one being wrong.

A direct manufacturer answer (2026-08-12) had stated a triangular cross-section, 350–400 rpm / 3–3.5 Ncm, and an alloy positioned "closest to MaxTech 9.0 CM".

The consolidated fact sheet, one day later, states a PARABOLIC cross-section, 300–500 rpm / 3.0 Ncm, and names the alloy tier "MaxTech High Flex (Controlled Memory Wire)".
What governs
A relayed answer is weaker evidence than a dated written document; the fact sheet governs.

The V Blue reciprocation angles were not printed in any earlier document; KD Blue was listed as 12 configurations; the W+ Tunnel glide file's cross-section was unstated.
Newer / governing source
The 2026-08 fact sheet states V Blue angles in writing for the first time (150° CCW / 30° CW), extends KD Blue to 16 configurations with graduated torques (0.75–3.6 Ncm), and states the W+ Tunnel cross-section as a parallelogram.
What governs
Program-defined reciprocation values may exist only in motor presets until a manufacturer document states them; the first written statement is the citable one.

An older distributor catalog circulated torque values that the manufacturer's own product sheets later contradicted — including 3.0 Ncm for the 16/.02 Path File.

The 2026-07 İnci Dental product sheets set the series values (all at 300 rpm): Smart Gold 1.8/2.2/2.5 Ncm, Smart Blue 1.0–2.5 Ncm, Touch Gold 2.0/2.2/2.5 Ncm, Touch Blue 1.5/1.5/2.5 Ncm, per-file Action values — and Path File 16/.02 at 1.0 Ncm.
What governs
Manufacturer product sheets supersede distributor catalogs; a stale catalog can propagate wrong values for years.

A flat "2–3 Ncm for all files" reading circulated widely, and some sources claimed the XA torque was unspecified.
Newer / governing source
The system's own IFU carries a dedicated XA row: 3–4 Ncm — different from the other files' values.
What governs
Per-file IFU rows govern over summarized "all files" values.
