Clinical Tip
Both follow ProTaper-style naming, one generation apart. ProTaper Ultimate adds the Slider, moves Shaper and F1–F3 to variable tapers, and uses three heat treatments at 400 RPM. EdgeTaper Platinum keeps the familiar SX–F5 progression in constant-taper FireWire files on a single 300–500 RPM setting. Choose ProTaper Ultimate for the current Dentsply sequence with versioned IFUs; EdgeTaper Platinum preserves the older SX–F5 muscle memory, and its 2x cyclic-fatigue claim over ProTaper Gold is manufacturer bench data, not independent evidence.
