Clinical Tips
Lengths of 16-19 mm are common in dedicated pediatric systems; adult systems are usually 21-31 mm and are used at shorter working lengths in the pediatric literature
Speed and torque are manufacturer-specific; for systems with no public first-party source, the values may rest on secondary literature
Because of physiological root resorption in primary teeth, plan working length and apical progression more conservatively
Canal walls and the furcation area may be more delicate than in adult teeth
Some systems are marketed for continuous rotation only, while systems such as Endogal Kids list both rotary and reciprocating options
Public source quality differs between systems; Baby Blue and some Kids-e / Pro AF details are documented mainly by secondary sources rather than written manufacturer documents
Warnings
- Do not force files beyond the apex; primary teeth undergo physiological root resorption
- High torque settings may cause instrument fracture
- Excessive irrigation may lead to material extrusion beyond the apex and to periapical damage
- Avoid over-shaping; preserve dentin
- Single-use / reuse policy may vary by system; follow the relevant manufacturer's instructions
- Because of the short working length, take care near the apex
- Take care when choosing files for areas of resorbed root
- Keep the risk of furcal perforation in mind
